Last week of June!? Wow, that was fast! We are in full swing with lots going on at the Club. Here are a few highlights:

Trees

Unfortunately, we have our second major tree issue to face, right on the heels of the Ash Tree devastation as a result of the Emerald Ash Borer. We have a blight attacking our spruce trees. Most notably, the left side of 14 has been devastated and there are a number of other areas that are showing the same characteristics. Unfortunately, treatments have not been successful and we will have no choice but to remove a large number of trees this fall. On that note, the Board has already begun discussing a plan to replace trees through significant planting this fall in line with our Tree Master Plan. If you, your family, your regular foursome, or your locker bay want to gift a tree, please email Jason Hanna. In any case we will keep you posted as the plan develops.

Slope Issue on #6 Tee

Now that the foliage is growing on the valley walls the slope slide on 6 tee is becoming more obvious. We have retained a consultant to determine the best and most cost effective solution. Once again we will keep you posted as things develop.

Smoking

Just a reminder to members that ALL patios (including the Halfway House) are designated as smoke free areas. Smoking is allowed as follows:

On the brick area on the back lawn of the Clubhouse;
To the right or left of the main entrance doors;
To the right of the members entrance; and,
On the lawn at the back of the Clubhouse and the lower level bricked area.

PGA Championship of Canada

This week has been very exciting as we host the top 64 players on the PGA of Canada’s Order of Merit for Club Professionals. As the vast majority of the players have not been to Credit Valley before, it has been overwhelming to have most of them talking about how good the course is and that they had no idea that it was such a great test of golf!

Bryn Perry of Point Grey Golf & Country Club in Vancouver (our reciprocal partner on the mainland in BC) fired a course record tying 65 in round 1 with 6 birdies in a row from holes 8 through 13. The field was reduced to the low 16 players and match play is underway today. Talk about stress – there was an 11-way playoff to get into the 16th position! For live updates click here.

Membership

We have had tremendous success this year with our Trial Program. In addition, our conversions from last year’s trial program into long-term membership have been ahead of budget as well. Obviously the word is out that the experience that we are providing is best in class. As most of our new members still come through referrals from existing members, you all deserve a big thank you for being a big part of this success. We have closed off the under 30 Intermediate group and have started a wait list; we have a wait list for our 5-Day category; and, we are less than 10 members from being sold out across the board. If you have a friend who is interested, better give them a nudge if they want to be part of the Credit Valley experience.
